Race: Draper Days 5k (3.107 Miles) 00:14:54, Place overall: 1
Total Distance
9.00

Got there around 6:30 and the raced started at 7. Jogged the final 1k of the course out and back before and then just jogged around to stay loose. Made the start but didnt have enough time to get any strides. Race started out pretty quick and the first mile had a gentle incline. 4:48 pace. By the time we got to the first mile it was just me and Anthony Costales( Winner of Running of the leopards and Murray Days 5k). Second mile was mostly flat with a gentle decline and Anthony had about a meter on me. I mainly focused of staying close but I was really starting to hurt. Then we made a turn and transistioned from road to paved trail. I remeber looking at my watch and it said we were at 2.45 so about 1000 meters left and I thought "its go time, it has to happen sooner or later". So I made my move and was able to get about a 3 meter lead and from there to the finish I was running scared, when I made the final turn I looked back and I had around 20 seconds on Anthony so I just pushed to the finish. Watch said 14:53 official time 14:54. But I dont care about the second. It was a great race and helped me gain a lot of confidence and trust in my training.

Excellent race Garek! You can be one of the best ever in this state.

Garek - congratulations on the breakthrough!

For some reason the official race results when I looked at them showed Anthony at 15:36. That made no sense. Do you know what time he actually got?

Garek, congrats on the win and such an outstanding time, that's awesome! Good luck this next season, you'll kill it! Maybe someone from Utah will finally win Footlocker.
